State-of-the-art level measurement with radar – also attractive in price

VEGA radar technology makes level measurement in bulk solids virtually independent of process conditions

In recent years new, innovative techniques for level measurement of bulk solids have been developed that are far superior to previously used measuring systems. Beside their technical advantages, these new developments demonstrate their prowess also with regard to price.

Quite interesting for the user are, for example, the sensors from VEGA Grieshaber KG. The radar sensors VEGAPULS 67 and 68, which were specially developed for bulk solid applications, offer significant technical advantages at prices comparable to older, traditional measuring methods such as ultrasonic or plumb line systems. They work reliably even under conditions of intense dust and noise generation as well as high temperatures. Due to its non-contact measuring principle, functioning absolutely wear and maintenance-free, radar offers tremendous advantages especially in the aggregates and mining industry.

The sensors have already proven themselves in a wide range of applications – from crusher feeder monitoring to level measurement in bunkers, with grain sizes ranging from coarse crushed rock to powdery filler. Thanks to the compact sensor dimensions, easy mounting on conveying equipment is possible, e.g. for measuring the height of a bulk material heap.

Different sensor versions are available for a wide variety of measurement tasks. The small, compact VEGAPULS 67 is very suitable for applications with measuring ranges up to 15 m. With the universal sensor VEGAPULS 68, even the most difficult measurements involving distances up to 70 m can be realised. Thus, virtually any level measurement problem can now be solved with radar.
