Flow measurement in open flumes |
The application
The input quantity of a sewage plant is an important parameter for effective control of that complex system. Depending on the quantity of wastewater, different quantities of air are required in the aeration basin. This controls the activity of the bacteria in breaking down the pollutants and ensures continuous quality of wastewater treatment. A contactless measurement is recommended here to prevent the sensors from getting soiled by the large amounts of solid matter in the inflowing sewage.
Process data
| Medium: | Waste water |
| Tank: | Gutter at the inlet to the sewage plant |
| Temperature: | Fluctuating, depending on season and kind of waste water |
| Measuring height: | 0.5 - 1 m |
Solution
There is a defined relationship between the flow rate and the level in gutters and channels.
The radar sensor VEGAPULS 61 is well suited for this measurement task.
Reliable function is guaranteed even in the wastewater treatment facilities of chemical plants where wastewater is subject to temperature changes or mixed with solvents.
