Fresh water extraction from rivers

Water for cooling and feeding

Most thermal power stations are located close to rivers. One of the most important components in power generation – water – is thus readily available. Without water, the thermal energy from the combustion process cannot be converted into electricity or district heating. It serves just as much as coolant and driver of the turbines as heat transporter to the final consumer. So it is vital that a sufficient supply of this precious resource is always available. For this reason, measurement of the river water level plays an important roll in the power generation process.

Level measurement at the water extraction site with VEGAWELL 52

Due to its ceramic diaphragm, VEGAWELL 52 is extremely robust and long-term stable. Its virtually front-flush measuring cell guarantees reliable operation. Because of the surface composition and front flushness of the measuring cell, a self-cleaning effect takes place as soon as it is immersed in water – even in extremely dirty conditions or after long periods of dryness.

Contactless level measurement with VEGAPULS 61

Level measurement with radar is unaffected by temperature variations, strong wind, fog, rain or snowfall and delivers reliable measuring results under all operating conditions. The radar sensor VEGAPULS 61 the ideal solution for contactless level measurement at the cooling water inlet of the power plant. The small, light sensors are mounted on the channel wall with a simple mounting bracket.
