Chlorine as a base material for numerous products

Chlorine production – challenging requirements for materials and sensors

Chlorine is used in the most diverse processes imagin-able. One type of chlorine production is the electrochemical breakdown of saline water (HCl) into hydrogen and chlorine. In order to achieve the highest possible yield and at the same time low environmental impact, the latest process technology is utilised. The extreme corrosiveness of the products requires the sensors to have high chemical resistance. The sensors must also withstand the powerful electromagnetic fields created by extremely high electrical currents during electrolysis.

Continuous level measurement with VEGAPULS 63

The radar sensor VEGAPULS 63 is particularly suitable for continuous level measurement of chlorine. The encapsulated antenna system is covered by a PFTE disk, so that no metal has direct contact with the medium – optimal corrosion resistance is thus assured.

Level detection with VEGASWING 63

Reliable level detection in chlorine storage tanks is ensured with the vibrating level switch VEGASWING 63. Completely unaffected by product characteristics and process conditions, VEGASWING 63 delivers a dependable, clear switching signal. Depending on the type and concentration of the medium, sensor versions in V4A (stainless steel) and Hastelloy, as well as plastic or enamel coated models, are available.
